ARE YOU READY TO MEET THE ANGEL OF DEATH?// A NIGHT WITH TIGER ARMY

Photos by Dillon Flowers

A large roar arose from the crowd, as American Psychobilly Artists Tiger Army stormed the stage at Ace Of Spade Sacramento this past Friday night. With a pluck from the upright bass and the pound of the kick drum the moment everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived...

Friday, June 3oth, was a night that can only be described as a masterpiece in the folk/rockabilly music scene. the show was completely sold out with a line spanning around the block. Showing just how loyal the fans of both Tiger Army and Murder by Death truly are. Upon entering the venue there was a sense of togetherness, almostas if you had walked into your family reunion. There was no doubt were among good people. The crowd was excited, Jack Daniels was flying off the shelf faster then it could be re stalked! But soon the lights would lower and the crowd would come to a low whisper as artist Tim Barry took the stage.

With a deep breath, Tim began to strum his guitar. What followed next was a heart breaking story about what it means to truly care for a person. Dedicating the song to a friend in Prison, Tim took the crowd on a journey of revenge and justice, pulling on each individuals heart strings.

Continuing on with songs like "Avoiding Catatonic Surrender" and "Walk 500 Miles", Tim brought a passion that is lost in today's music. Bearing his heart and Raw emotions for everyone to see. Watching Tim was like watching a tale unfold directly before your eyes. You were not just listening to the story, you were living it! however all good things must come to a end. With a final goodbye, Tim packed up his guitar and walked off the stage.

The next artist to take the stage was five piece indie folk band Murder by Death. Its hard to describe just what would unfold when they walked on stage. Lead vocalist Adam Turla took to the mic and with his smooth yet bellowing voice began to sing:

These lyrics set the tone for the rest of the set. With songs like "Lost River" and "As Long As There Is Whisky In The World" Murder by Death showed Sacramento what it meant to a "Class A" touring act! Viewing how each artist played together was a sight for soar eyes, you could tell that they were there to have fun and to just enjoy playing the songs they had written. They had a way of breaking down the disconnect between artist and attendant, even if you where in the crowd you felt like you were right there on stage singing along with them!

Soon the show would come to a quick stop as security walked up to the front of the stage, people wondering what was happening. Out of no where, the stage security lift up two shots and proceed to give them to the band. With a quick head tilt and a swing of whisky the show was back on the road! Murder by Death would go on to play a few more songs before thanking the crowd and departing from the stage.

Atlas! With a pluck from the upright bass and the pound of the kick drum, the moment everyone had been waiting for had finally arrived. Coming out to the lyrics of Hank William's "Angel of Death", Tiger Army took the stage, ready to show Sacramento what it meant to rock! Playing their new studio album "V" as well as some of their more popular songs, Tiger Army lead the crowd on a journey through the ages. With each lyric that left Nick 13's mouth, there was a echo that rang throughout the crowd, as each person sang their heart out! Tiger Army went on to put on a incredible show that can only be described with these simple words: "Go see them play live or you will regret it!"
